ALL ABOUT US
Welcome to Underearth Business Park and Storage located in Liter’s Quarry! This mine has been developed through the years as a limestone quarry for the production of aggregates used in the construction industry. William Thomas Liter, an honest and hardworking man, paid for the mine in September of 1955 with a $5.00 check. The last stone was mined in 1989 and then the facility sat dormant until recently.

Before it started as a quarry people considered making it into a prison, however, due to safety and health precautions, they decided against it. Questions arose about what the mine would be used for. Eventually, Liter’s Quarry started mining limestone, but the business had a slow start. Fortunately, hope sprang about once I-71 was built, and it brought in business opportunities. Business became steady, but in the 1960s the civil defense brought tremendous fear to the communities due to the discovery of nuclear weapons. As a result, a fallout shelter was created inside the mine to provide safety and shelter to those in the community. This fallout shelter held around 300 people for 24 hours after a simulated atomic attack.

Fast forward approximately 40 years later, our team decided to repurpose the facility to be utilized for underground storage. Today, it provides numerous advantages for underground storage. These advantages include the benefits of year-round, constant temperatures and weather, without the need for expensive HVAC systems and the security of its location—no worries about tornados, hail, snowstorms, heat waves, or the damaging effects of UV rays associated with sunlight.
